Nitric acid production is carried out by ammonia contact oxidation. The process of nitric acid production is expressed by the following three chemical reaction equations:
1. Ammonia and oxygen in the air generate nitric oxide under the action of platinum catalyst. This reaction is carried out in the oxidation furnace. The chemical reaction equation is expressed as:

2. Nitric oxide continues to oxidize to produce nitrogen dioxide. This reaction is carried out in a series of heat exchange equipment. The chemical reaction equation can be expressed as:
2NO+O2=2NO2+Q
3. Nitrogen dioxide is absorbed by desalted water to generate nitric acid. This reaction is carried out in the absorption tower. The chemical reaction equation can be expressed as:
3NO2+H2O=2HNO3+NO+Q
